South Carolina Republican Heckles President during a speech, in Congress. And might I mention that the Republican in question was not an audience member in the upper deck, but Representative Joe Wilson. That’s right–a Congressman jumped up and heckled the president during an important speech.
I know the Texas legislature was once colored with fistfights and heckling, but D.C. is supposed to be populated by grown ups. I guess those days are gone…. I’m reluctant to say this was racially motivated, since the Democrats are getting flak just for being Democrats at this point, but this IS a first for Congress, and it is the first time a black man has been president. So is it now acceptable to heckle the president if he’s (a) from a different political party and (b) from a different ethnic group? We’ve successfully had forty three other presidents, all of whom were white gentlemen, and none of them were heckled during a speech to Congress.
Racially motivated or not, that kind of partisan, childish outburst is unacceptable from anyone in the audience of a presidential speech to Congress, but especially from a congressman who should, ostensibly, know better. However, this kind of outburst exemplifies the kind of childish tactics to which the Republican party’s most vocal members have resorted. If you can’t win by convincing voters that you’re the better candidate, then you can make yourself feel better by making the other party miserable.
Maturity. You’re doing it wrong.

After stealing the 2000 election, the Republicans called the Democrats sore losers, but I have never bigger sore losers than today’s Republicans. They scream and shout and encourage gullible people to do the same.
