An Un-necessarily Hyphen-ated Valentine’s Day

As with most people, I’m finding out that there really is no better job for artists, musicians, and writers than Half Price Books. That Bank of America job? Part-time, no benefits, and paying less than what I’m making right now. Who knew that banks paid less than a book store? I didn’t. I also didn’t know that Bank of America has laid the blame for the economic crisis squarely on the shoulders of the consumers. If you owe even a nickel in credit card debt, then you can rest assured that the recession is YOUR fault! The deregulation, unscrupulous bankers who wanted a buck, investors who were willing to invest in shady securities, and a lackadaisical SEC had nothing to do with it. At all.

Nice, eh? Makes me feel good about wanting to work at a bank right now.

On the plus side, I get to keep my awesome job, with its awesome benefits, and I won’t have to worry about being robbed at gunpoint by crazed lunatics. (They usually neglect to mention that in the interviews for teller positions.) And really, for someone as over-educated as myself, what better job is there than The Human Computer, Bearer of All Knowledge and Most Organized and Efficient Shelver of Books EVER? (This isn’t my ACTUAL job title, which is “Bookseller 1,” but if you asked my boss this is what he’d tell you. Also, it’s kind of hard to fit that kind of thing on a name tag or a pay stub.) You don’t get those kinds of job titles at PriceWaterhouse-Cooper or Bank of America or ExxonMobil. I’m sure there’s a good reason for that, but I haven’t found one. Besides, if I worked for one of those companies I’d just spend my free time writing satirical stories that would make my bosses feel uncomfortable. “Is this about me?” “No, no! I assure you! It has nothing to do with my job or my actual life. Totally made up–seriously…tee hee.”

So you may be wondering what this button does, this one down here. I’ve decided that my blog, which doesn’t get updated enough, needs some extra fun added to it. If you click it, you’ll see what I mean. (Get your own fun here!)
